Visa run to Thailand

Last week we visited Thailand with cruising friends Melinda and Dave. It's Ramadan here in Malaysia (the month of fasting for muslims) so the Cargo port gates which we have to go through to the boat yard are closed more often at prayer times. We have a swipe card to enter and exit on foot at these times

They finally let Eric out on parole

Cathy found this Greek fisherman at the ferry dock!

The ferry was old but nicely painted and got us to Thailand in just over an hour

The young crew kept a watchful eye on the passengers

Customs was easy. They'll let anybody in!

Happy travellers

We stayed at Ang Yees guesthouse where they served the 4 of us a meal for 12 and charged us accordingly!

The pretty coloured coach got us to Phuket town in 8 hrs. We then headed for Chalong beach

We found the Thai people to be very friendly

Why does she want to take my photo?

We stayed at L'escale guesthouse for 4 nights. It had nice comfortable rooms

The jetty was a short walk from the guesthouse and a new marina was being built at the end of it

Labour intensive

This huge Budda was looking down on Chalong from the skyline

Eric drooling over the Rolly Tasker chandlery

After purchasing some rigging wire and rope we explored the Royal Phuket marina and chandlers at Boat harbour

Dispite the rain these workers managed a siesta

Yacht haven marina

Local big game fishing boat and it's trophies at Ao Po marina

Out of the sea and onto Eric's plate?

The food was good
We saw lots of interesting sites as we travelled up and down the coasts

Pineapples and rubber trees. Not an inch of flat fertile ground is wasted

Mobile restaurant

Look closely. This black pot is a rubbish bin made from a recycled tyre

Enjoyng the view on the western coast

Whose initials are those

One pampered puppy

We enjoyed a visit to the Big Budda. The construction was fascinating.

Any resemblences?

We stopped the night at Krabi on the way home to break the journey.

Melinda and Dave enjoyed the surf

James Bond island on the horizon

Majestic mountain peaks

These are a humble reminder of what happened here

A great way to have your feet cleaned!

The next day we headed for Satun on the coach

Bus terminal in Krabi

About Me

My photo
We met in 1971 and it was Eric's dream to build his own yacht and sail the world. This became a joint dream but it was not until 1994 that we were able to start building. "Erica" was launched in 2001 after 7yrs building her. It then took us 5 yrs to prepare her and ourselves before leaving NZ to see the world
