Out and about in Deniliquin and surrounding area NSW ( February and March 2013)

In February Linda and Rob visited from Melbourne and we had a great day reminiscing on our past nursing memories and mutual friends. Thanks guys it was fun and so nice to see you both

Bron who was agency nursing here at Deniliquin invited me for a day trip to Echuca, 45min drive from here on the Murray river. We explored the pretty town and saw the movie Les Miserable..A fabulous day out

The riverside has an array of lovely old shops and one can take a ride on a horse and cart or a river boat

On one of my days off work I cycled out of town to the site of the Deniliquin Ute muster.

 A friend at work has lent me her bike for the duration of my contract here. I feel like a butterfly having come out of a coccoon now that I have wheels! Thanks Ange

Other events are popular at this site too with the Blues and Roots festival and Matchmakers festival

Across the river in the park the Kangaroos come each evening to feed on the grass. This is a favourite place for me to sit and read a book

One of my midwifery colleagues, Kerrie took me for a visit to their 3,000acreage farm an hour out of Deniliquin. They run cattle and grow rice and other crops. Stuart took me for a tour to see the water irrigation channel  setup from the Murray river and explained how it is monitored and how the water is used to supply the fields for the rice growing. I found it fascinating... The countryside without the    water is soooooo dry.                                                  Thanks Kerrie and Stuart for your hospitality

Another day out was to Barham where a High tea party was held to raise funds for the Retirement home where Kerrie's Grandma is resident. I enjoyed meeting her extended family and having an "all girls day out" and the cakes, biscuits and sandwiches were to die for!

At the end of the month it's the end of another great Aussie contract.  I fly back to NZ for a day before we say our goodbyes to family and return to Sth Africa where our home aboard our "Erica" awaits us and our adventures across the Atlantic begin
